Interim General Manager for BOP

Squash Bay of Plenty is excited to welcome Sam Niles as our interim General Manager. Stepping into the role while Rebecca is on maternity leave, Sam brings a wealth of enthusiasm, experience, and a deep connection to the Bay of Plenty squash community.

Sam has been involved in squash from a young age, starting his journey at Devoy Squash & Fitness when he picked up a racket at just 10 years old. Over the years, he has become a familiar and respected figure in the regional squash scene. Currently taking a break from his studies at Wellington University, Sam is thrilled to spend the summer back in the Bay of Plenty. During this time, he will dedicate himself to supporting our staff, engaging with key stakeholders, and providing valuable assistance to local clubs to foster the continued growth and success of squash across the region.

“I’m excited to step into this role and have the opportunity to give back to the sport and community that have played such an important part in my life,” says Sam. “I’m particularly looking forward to working closely with the Board, staff, and stakeholders to help strengthen squash across the region and ensure a successful future for the sport.”

Squash Bay of Plenty Chair Kelly Cox adds, “Having a strong background in squash and knowing the community well, Sam will be able to hit the ground running. He’ll also play a key role in the upcoming Festival of Squash, so we’re looking forward to working with him over the coming months.”

When Sam returns to Wellington to resume his studies later in the year, he will continue to actively support Squash Bay of Plenty in a remote capacity. This approach will ensure consistent leadership and allow him to maintain strong connections with staff, stakeholders, and the wider squash community while balancing his academic commitments.

We are delighted to have Sam join our team and look forward to his contributions as we work together to strengthen and grow squash in the Bay of Plenty. His dedication to the sport and the community makes him a fantastic addition to our organization.
