Sam Niles Appointed Chair of Squash Bay of Plenty

Squash Bay of Plenty is pleased to announce the appointment of Sam Niles as the new Chair of the Board.

Having been around squash all his life and later stepping into the role of General Manager, Sam has an innate understanding of the organisation and the squash community in the Bay of Plenty. His deep connection to the sport and experience in leadership will help guide the organisation through its next phase of growth.

“I’m incredibly honoured to step into the role with the support of the board and continue the great work of those before me,” said Sam Niles. “I want to extend thanks to Michelle Oldfield for her service to the board — her financial acumen has been instrumental in strengthening our operations and ensuring the long-term sustainability of the organisation.

A special acknowledgement also goes to outgoing Chair Kelly Cox, whose leadership has been pivotal in guiding Squash BOP over recent years. Her contributions have helped lay a strong foundation, and I look forward to building on that.

We have a fantastic board with a diverse wealth of knowledge, and I’m excited to work alongside them, the staff, and the wider squash community to continue growing the game, supporting our clubs, and developing squash across the region. While there are challenges ahead, fresh leadership brings new energy and opportunity, and we’re excited about what’s next for the Bay.”

Under Sam’s leadership, Squash Bay of Plenty will remain focused on strengthening pathways for players, supporting clubs, growing participation in the sport across the region, with a key focus on the long-term sustainability and success of the Bay.
