Event Recap: North Island Junior Age Groups in Whanganui

The North Island Junior Open held in Whanganui was an incredible weekend of squash competition. The Bay of Plenty squad showcased their skills and determination, bringing home a remarkable collection of trophies. Here's a summary of the winners and notable achievements:

Boys U11: Flynn Watkins from Edgecumbe emerged as the champion after defeating Jeremy McAllister from Northland.

Boys U15: Vihan Chathury from Te Puke Squash Club claimed the title, triumphing over Fergus Hill from Waikato.

Girls U15: Brooke Valois from Devoy Squash Club secured the division, defeating Zara Hinton from Eastern.

Girls U17: Ella Hill from Devoy Squash Club showcased her talent by defeating Mackenzie Tait from Wellington to claim the title.

Other outstanding performances include:

  • Boys U15:

    • Ciaran Manning from Devoy Squash Club secured an impressive 3rd place.

    • Olly Collier from Devoy Squash Club emerged as the Plate Winner.

    • Riley King from Devoy Squash Club won the Consolation Plate.

  • Boys U17:

    • Payton Korewha from Devoy Squash Club finished 13th.

  • Boys U19:

    • Jack Oliver from Mount Squash Club secured an impressive 3rd place.

    • Matt Ward from Te Puke Squash Club finished 4th.

    • Jonty Collier from Mount Squash Club claimed the 5th position.

    • Kyle Steyn from Taupo Squash Club was the Plate Runner-up.

    • Kian Valois from Devoy Squash Club finished 11th.

    • Sam Green from Taupo Squash Club won the Consolation Plate.

  • Girls U11:

    • Tia Reweti from Tokoroa Squash Club secured an impressive 4th place.

  • Girls U13:

    • Charlie Stubbing from Te Puke Squash Club emerged as the Plate Winner.

    • Emma Young from Katikati Squash Club finished as the Plate Runner-up.

    • Melanie Young from Katikati Squash Club won the Consolation Plate.

  • Girls U15:

    • Kendall Young from Katikati Squash Club won the Consolation Plate.

  • Girls U17:

    • Erin Wylie from Devoy Squash Club secured an impressive 3rd place.

    • Sienna Dadley from Te Puke Squash Club finished as the Special Plate Runner-up.

  • Girls U19:

    • Emma Merson from Mount Squash Club finished as the Runner-up.

Thanks to coaches Dave Clarke, Graeme Randolph, Becky Clarke, and Robbie Wyatt for their dedication in accompanying the players to the North Islands. We would also like to express our appreciation to all the parents who traveled to support their children. Your presence and encouragement were invaluable.

Following this event, our juniors have an exciting few weeks ahead with the BOP Junior Open taking place at Te Puke Squash Club this weekend. It's wonderful to see our top players participating and setting an example for the younger generation.
